Is Shalla still writing Chick Lit? Uh-uh, no, no, as you may notice, Shalla has switched to writing literary works. (John Steinbeck, Milan Kundera, Kate Chopin, Toni Morrison, etc. are Shalla's favorite authors afterall.) You know, Pulitzer Prize winners, Nobel Prize Laureates etc...
But, what's Chick Lit? It's a hip women's lit and the fastest emerging literary and TV/film genre and Shalla de Guzman writes it--GIRL POWER! Chick lit's everywhere. It's how urbanites speak, move and how the most stylish dresses and talks. It's fads, liposuction, nose jobs and boob jobs. It's Sex and the City meets Will and Grace that stumble into Desperate Housewives and turns into The Apprentice, Michael Jackson's trial and Martha Stewart's stocks skyrocketing to the heavens. Look for what's hip, who's in and what's hot. That's chick lit. Mix that in with an equal serving of multi-cultural stuff and you get my super duper multi-culti chick lit. My Multi-culti Chick Lit: Yeah, speaking Tagalog fluently really helps. Plus, having spent seven years of schooling there adds to my knowledge of the Philippine culture.
